Location approximate, closed date approximate. The first big difficulty lay in obtaining cement for the floor. This was unobtainable in Cairns, and in very short supply even in Brisbane, but 1 was able to buy it second-hand from a cattle station on the Croydon railway line. I was unable to obtain a permit for new corruguated galvanised iron for the roof, but was able to purchase all the second-hand iron I wanted from a neighbour who had bought it for his own use and then decided not to build. Other materials were obtained in Normanton, Cairns and Brisbane. The bulk of the timber, which was ordered from Cairns, did not arrive until the beginning of October. (AIM Magazine) |
