Built on raised posts in the style of churches in New Guinea. Built by a local tradesman with no previous training in carpentry. Thirteen island communities as well as from the New Guinea mainland attended the dedication service - 46 pigs was part of the tremendous feast. 'They [the Saibai people] have built a church. It is wonderful what money they have collected for the purpose. The got the timber from New Guinea, and they have built it all themselves, and purchased iron for the roof. They have put up a very good structure (Douglas). |
