'The church is constructed of weatherboards, with corrugated iron roof, and the site has been well chosen on a hill at the rear of the main street. Its dimensions are 35 feet by 20 feet, and 14 feet high, and its cost when completed will be about £450. When the verandah and the highly ornamented gothic portico which form portion of the design, are finished, the building will present quite a handsome appearance.' (Telegraph 3 Apr 1873) In a state of disrepair by 1880. 'Two offers have been made for the iron, and whatever timber is left, of the tottering, rotting, ant-eaten old edifce that fornerl did duty as a Catholic Church in this place; one by an ex-shanty keeper for conversion into a shanty, he being what is called a good Catholic and the other by the Chinese for a Joss-house, but neither offer was entertained by the bishop (Northern Miner 1 April 1880) |
