When the recruitment of Sea South Islanders finished in 1904, most islanders in Queensland were repatriated by 1907. Others stayed and a small group managed to form a community on rented land at Joskleigh near Keppel Sands. A school was established in 1915 and a church established by Christian Brethren missionaries.
