Old church destroyed by cyclone in 1918 The new church is a substantially built building, 38ft., x 26ft., and, in the words of the Rev. Prouse, “reflected great credit upon the contractor, Mr. C. A. Deike.” The building would stand as a monument of his trades manlike work. The new building is erected on the site of the old church, which served Herberton Methodism for thirty-five years (being the first church erected in the township) and graces the town from its imposing position right in the heart of the town. The walls are of chamfer boards, and the ceiling is done in cove style. There is a neat porch at the front, with steps leading up each side. The choir platform is raised 8in., and extends 10ft.’ forward, being graced with a beautiful cedar communion railing and kneeling stools. The ‘pulpit, from the old church, re-polished and repaired, now makes an imposing structure in the new building. The church seats are all of cedar, and have been reconstructed. There are twelve Gothic-shaped windows, of cathedral glass in the main building and a smaller window in the porch. The “Gloria”- lighting system has been’ installed,-and a fine Mason and Hamlyn organ replaces the old “Estey,” which was completely wrecked in the old building. ? Underneath the church, at the end where the ground . is lowest, a well-con-structed room, about 18 x 10, will be most useful for meetings, socials, etc. Sold $45,000 in 2000
