The church is situated in what is known as the new township, on a hill, at the rear of the Post and Telegraph Office. It is built of brick. The seats are similar to those in St. Paul's Church, Rockhampton. A Hladyn organ was kindly lent by Messrs. Beale and Co. pending the arrival of the new one for the church. The altar, which stands on a platform, is covered with a beautiful dark red altar cloth, and on either side, and on the wall at the rear, are hangings and draperies which are very rich in material. The altar had upon it vases of lovely flowers. The lectern is the workmanship of Mr. Elgar, a member of the choir. At tbe east end of the church are two windows of cathedral glass, the material being kindly supplied by Mr. Wakefield, and the labour performed by Mr. Cowap. The organ and all internal fittings, in value over £100, are donations from various persons. (Morning Bulletin 17 Oct 1888) |
